The changing seasons in Montréal and
throughout Quebec offer different temperatures throughout the year.
The benefits of Montréal’s four seasons are that there
are a variety of things to do.
Spring
— March 21 to June 21
Moderate warm temperature with sunny skies.
It officially begins in early April when the last snow melts. The
maximum temperatures in April and May average approximately 10.7°C
(51.2°F) and 18.5°C (65.3°F).
Summer
— June 21 to September 21
Hot and humid weather arrives! The temperature
can soar above 30°C (86°F) during July heat waves, however
the maximum average temperature is 26.4°C (79.5°F). Summer
in Montréal is the perfect time to adventure in the outdoors
and indulge in a variety of activities.
Autumn
— September 21 to December 21
Autumn in Montréal is the most scenic
season. Autumn blazes with colour, with an average temperature of
13°C (55.4°F) in October. It is the season known for “the
changing of the leaves”, when the Laurentian forests are abundant
in red and gold—simply breath-taking! "Indian Summer",
which usually occurs in early October, briefly brings back a summery
air and warm temperatures to Montréal.
Winter
— December 21 to March 21
Montréal is reputed for its cold, snowy
winters. Annual snowfall averages 200 cm (78.7 inches). Winter is
the ideal time to engage in outdoor sports, such as skating, skiing,
sledding, snowshoeing and hockey. In January, temperatures hover
around -10°C (14°F) or even lower! If you are sensitive
to cold, do not be put off. A warm sweater, coat (and sometimes
a hat if required) can do the trick to scare off Jack Frost!
